Standards

This page is the named source of judgment on Selected by Men. A ranking is the desk’s ranking against this filter. It is not a lab report, and it is not a paid placement.

The filter

Every recommendation has to clear the same questions:

  • Is the design considered, or just loud?
  • Will it still feel right in a year?
  • Is the price honest for the materials and construction?
  • Do verified owners report the same strengths we care about?
  • Is it worth telling a friend to buy it?

If the answer is no, it does not go on the list. How well a link converts does not override that.

What we actually look at

  • Manufacturer specifications and the current US Amazon listing: real name, ASIN, what is in the kit, price band, water rating, battery, replacement parts.
  • Star rating and review volume on that listing. A 4.8 with forty reviews is not the same evidence as a 4.3 with eight thousand.
  • Independent editorial reviews when they exist, labeled as theirs — not ours.
  • Cost to own: heads, cartridges, proprietary chargers, whether parts will still be sold.
  • Who it is for, and who should skip it.

We do not invent lab tests. If a guide is not a thirty-day wear test, the guide says so. Manufacturer claims — closeness to the micron, cutting actions per minute, “below skin level” — stay labeled as claims.

How often a list is revisited

Live roundups are checked at least every 90 days, and sooner if:

  • the product is discontinued or the listing dies
  • a successor ships
  • a material claim in the guide is wrong
  • the price band moves enough that the recommendation changes

The published date and the updated date on a guide are the dates that work happened. We do not backdate a piece to look older than the site.

If a pick disappears

We replace it, or we change the ranking and say why. We do not leave a dead buy link sitting as if it were still the pick. A temporary Amazon stock-out is a stock problem, not an automatic demotion — unless it stays gone.

Corrections

Write contact@selectedbymen.com. A factual error gets a fix and a new updated date. A ranking change gets a sentence in the guide.
